Pirates of the Caribbean Fast Facts and a change coming ---arrrgh matey!
This ride was Walt’s original idea. The attraction was originally conceived as a wax museum and a walk-through adventure. But following the success of Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress at the 1964 New York World’s Fair, Walt Disney and his team of Imagineers decided that Audio-Animatronics—Walt’s latest animation technology—was the most imaginative way to tell a rousing pirate story.
It almost didn't get built in Walt Disney World Florida. Walt thought that because of Florida's proximity to the real Caribbean, people wouldn't want to ride an attraction so close to the real thing. He was wrong when there was such an out cry from the public, he had to include it.
Amazing attention to detail even fooled the Anaheim Fire dept when it was built...but its not real fire. The fire effect in Pirates is just a combination of cloth, fans and lights, but when seen from afar, it really looks like the town is burning. That fire chief in Anaheim, when he was doing his inspection walk through, he was on the verge of shutting the ride down until he realized that the flames weren’t real.
Changes are coming to his ride in 2018!!! The scene where the red headed woman is being auctioned off will be refit to be a chicken auction much like it is in Disneyland Paris. It is to make it politically correct and avoid implications of human trafficing....my how far we've come since the 1960s.
See this attraction and many more that are undergoing a refit but calling me for a no obligation quote or to book a trip.
