Dates Disney World has closed in the past...
Hurricane Irma has closed Disney for the fifth time in its history. Here's a recap of all the dates that Walt Disney World stayed closed to all guests.
*Hurricane Floyd – Sept. 15, 1999
*Hurricane Frances – Sept. 4-5, 2004
*Hurricane Jeanne – Sept. 26, 2004
*Hurricane Matthew – Oct. 7, 2016
*Hurricane Irma – Sept. 10-11, 2017
One of the only other times that Walt Disney World has had an earlier closing than scheduled was on Sept. 11, 2001. After the terrorist attacks that day, all parks were cleared out in the early part of the morning and reopened the next day.
Here's what MyDisneyExperience app showed shortly before the Hurricane came for the closures of the parks due to Irma...(guess it's appropriate weather for Typhoon Lagoon).
Don't worry it was later corrected, and nothing was open, just funny how everything shows "Close for Refurbishment".
As of now, most of the theme parks are planned to reopen on Sept. 12. (Note: the resorts are open and have been housing guests but are on mandatory lock down due to local curfews.). I've been following coverage from guests on social media, so if you have any questions, please feel free to email and I can tell you have they weathered the storm at the the resorts, etc.
