Will Older MagicBands Still Work at DisneyWorld?
Last year, Disney World implemented a new model of MagicBands. If you are a frequent visitor to Disney and have a collection of the old MagicBands, or have purchased a customized one, you may be wondering if they will still work. Good question.
The answer depends ….
(Note: In the photo the purple MagicBand is the older version, while the ones with the oval are the newer models which I think weigh lighter too).
There are two ways MagicBands work. The first is the proximity chip, which is used for purchases and to open the resort guest room. This chip gets its power from the reader, and will always work.
The second is the long range (active) chip, which relies on a battery. This is the one that allows your on-ride photos to get linked to you on rides. The battery in these is said to last about two-to-three years.
TIP: Available until November 15th, 2017, you can get a special, limited edition, MagicBand ONLY when you book a Gift of Giving Disney Vacation Package. For more info, click here or contact me for details.
