Disney Removes "Do Not Disturb" For Your Security

Walt Disney World is making a change to its security measures at all of its resort hotels...

Beginning with three of its oldest resorts, Disney no longer provides “Do Not Disturb” signs for its guests.

Some may look at that and wonder just how much of an added security measure that is, but there is much more to it.

According to a report from WDW Today, guests at the three monorail resorts will no longer receive “Do Not Disturb” signs for their rooms. They are being replaced with signs reading “Room Occupied” to let the hotel staff know that guests are currently in their rooms.

Each day, though, a Cast Member from Disney will enter the room to check on the well-being of the guests and make sure everything is alright. Housekeeping staff will give notice that they are entering the room by knocking on the door and announcing, but this will happen for every single room at least once per day.*

This will be done even for rooms of those who have chosen to forgo housekeeping during their stay at Walt Disney World. It is even stated in the information provided to guests that Disney has this right and that there are numerous reasons why this could happen.

Disney is not publicly stating why they are making the change. However, numerous hotels around the world have been looking into making security better after the mass shooting that took place in Las Vegas in 2017, and Disney is no different. (It's a sad world these days).

Guests at the Grand Floridian, Polynesian, and Contemporary Resorts were the first to receive this change in policy. These changes are currently rolling out to other Walt Disney World Resort Hotels.

*I'm hearing from guests that if even if you have the sign out on your door (and the door security latch down) that housekeeping will still knock...and keep knocking on the door until you open the door. Obviously, this is not ideal if you or your child is trying to nap. Let's hope that Disney training will address this as the program matures. And like anyone knocking at your door unexpectedly, be sure you ask to see their Cast Member name tag to be sure they are an official Cast Member.
